Theme: Inspiration from the life of Bishop Baraga. Includes several talks on the life of Baraga. Madeline Island is a location where Baraga built a church. The church no longer exists, but the museum has some Baraga liturgical items that we will see on Saturday.
This camp is a bit more rustic than Dunrovin, where we have been before. Sleeping will be in bunk houses. The showers and toilets are a short walk from your bunk house. The camp has recreation options including canoes, Kayaks, hiking trails, a game room, fire pit, high ropes/low ropes. All meals will be cooked and served by camp personnel. A list of your food allergies has been sent to the camp and they will try to accommodate you. |
SCHEDULE: A detailed schedule will be added to this webpage, closer to the Expedition. Here are the most important details:
FRIDAY DEPARTURE: Arrive at The Saint Paul Seminary by 12:40 on Friday, Aug 19. Bus departs 1 pm.
(Please carpool and minimize cars on campus over the weekend. Any cars left on campus over the weekend MUST be parked in the lower level of the Anderson Parking Facility, while you are away for the weekend).
SATURDAY: We will leave camp at 7:30 am for Bayfield, Wisc. where we will get on the ferry that will take us to Madeline Island. There we will be having Mass, spend time at the museum and have lunch. We should arrive back at camp between 2:30 and 3:00.
SUNDAY RETURN TO ST. PAUL: We expect to pull into SPS at 6:30pm on Sunday evening, Aug 21.
Theology IV will be in charge of all Liturgies including times of prayer. Since they are few in number they will be delegating some things. Please help them if they contact you to assist for liturgies.
ACTION REQUEST BEFORE CAMP - 2 Mandatory Forms for Each Guest staying at Cross Woods Camp - please submit before August 15:
WHAT TO BRING
We have sent Cross Woods leadership a list of "allergens that we in the Office of Vocations know of" for men attending this Retreat, including for Kirsch, Panka, Vance, Ochsenbauer, Lacko. Please email Patty if you have a food allergy or intolerance and your name is not listed here - she can share with Cross Woods and keep for reference for other forthcoming dinners and events.
For those with food allergies:
Cross Woods needs to clarify that we are NOT a certified allergen-free kitchen and ask for when the men
are being served, to ask what ingredients are in foods. I expect they will be looking out for those allergens themselves. I will not be able to have all meals be
"soy free, gluten free, dairy free, .....". The meals we are making are with many "whole foods" so it should not be a problem.
If someone requests an alternative - I will do my absolute best to accommodate that need! We had SEVERAL campers over the summer with dietary needs and we did very well.
