The “Home for the Summer” program is a Catholic summer household experience for women who are interested in discerning their vocation while living in community for 8 weeks.
This summer program is for women who are college age up to 27.
2019 Home for the Summer program begins June 15 and concludes August 10. It is located next to Holy Cross Parish in Minneapolis:
1621 University Ave NE, Minneapolis, MN 55413
Daily life at the Bethany house will be filled with a rich life of prayer consisting of daily mass, a daily holy hour and praying the liturgy of the hours. Conveniently, there is an adoration chapel attached to the house. Tentatively, women will pray their holy hour preceding morning or evening prayer depending on their work schedule. Women at the Bethany house will try to go to daily mass together or split into groups depending on work schedules, various times nearby are 6:45am, 8:00am, 11:30am, 12:00pm.
On Monday’s, Wednesday’s and Thursday’s there will be community dinners at 6pm. The women will switch off planning and cooking for these meals in pairs as well as host religious sisters for one of these meals every week, usually Wednesdays.
Throughout the summer we will have a book study on discerning religious life by Sr. Clare Matthiass.
Because the home for the summer program is not beginning to live religious life now, the women will be encouraged to find work in the surrounding area to fill their time during the days. There will also be optional volunteer opportunities throughout the summer as well.
The home for the summer program will accept 5 to 9 women this summer.
The cost is $500 which covers includes rent, groceries and planned weekend excursions. Scholarships are available through the Serra Club.
Weekend trips planned from Friday evening through Sunday including camping, visiting the shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Lacrosse and visiting the Handmaids. These are planned for the weekends of June 21st, July 12th and August 2nd.
From July 3rd- 7th women are encouraged to go home for a 4th of July break.
The Household leader, Megan Healy, will live at the Bethany house, coordinate the scheduling, do grocery shopping and meet regularly with each woman in the house.
Overall, the Home for the summer program will allow for a summer marked by joy and sisterhood as well as create the time and space for the Lord to guide you in your discernment.
