A voice shall sound in your ears
Sr. Christine Marie Liebsch, Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ
“While from behind, a voice shall sound in your ears: “This is the way; walk in it,” when you would turn to the right or to the left.” (Isaiah 30:21)
When I first realized the Lord may be calling me to be a Sister, I had so many fears: would this mean giving up hopes and dreams of travel, enjoying the out-doors, and confining myself to an unhealthy, unfulfilled, isolated and miserable existence? Yet, even if it were so, I knew I had to keep the childhood promise I had made to the Lord to ‘be open to whatever He wanted.’ So I prayed daringly, “Lord, if you want me to visit even one convent, You need to provide the money, the invitation, and a time that allows me not to miss school.” As the request to my Dad for the plane fare rolled off my tongue, the phone rang with a Sister’s invitation to visit--and it coincided perfectly with my spring break! Not only did God provide every cent I needed for that eventful trip, but He allayed every one of my fears. Most importantly, He touched my heart deeply with His love, and gave me the surprising conviction that this is where I was to enter--the Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ. Had I not ‘turned to the right,’ I never would have discovered His amazing plan for me, which has already been ‘far more than I could have asked or imagined.’ (Eph. 3:20-21)
The journey of interior freedom, healing, and self-knowledge I have embarked on during these first three years in formation is only the beginning of the work the Lord wants to bring to completion in me, as He daily remakes me into His new creation. Besides the personal experience of being called by His love to be His Bride, He has called me to the privileged task of being a light to the nations, through world-wide evangelization opportunities, prayer ministry, and intercession through praise, Eucharistic Adoration, and the offering of daily works and prayers. My heart rejoices that I can truly say, “Better is one day in His courts,” here at Prayer Town, “than thousands elsewhere.” (Ps. 84:11)
N.B.: Sr. Christine Marie met the Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ--a Franciscan, Charismatic Religious Community--during her year with NET Ministries (2001-2002) and began discerning during her time spent in an SPO household. The date of her first profession was Dec. 12, 2009.
